Meet the Deckers

Hi there.  I'm Carly!  He's Ryan.  Our sweet son is Gideon.  We became "The Deckers" 7 years ago and have had the wildest adventure of a life so far together.  Our goal is to live a life like we're allergic to mediocrity and make much of Jesus in whatever we do.

This blog was originally designed to update our families and friends when we moved to Saudi Arabia for Ryan's master's degree but has since blossomed into a chronicle of our life.

The best part of our story so far is Gideon James Decker.  He was born August 19, 2015 and his birth story was perfection.  Gideon is a vibrant, curious, sweet love bug.  With the most delicious red hair you have ever seen! He has brought such joy to our family and is legitimately one of the funniest humans we know.

I (Carly) am a pediatric registered nurse learning to balance work and family.  Things I love...Jesus, Ryan, Gideon, mamahood, healthy living, cloth diapering, the fall/pumpkins/October, social justice, nursing, coffee dates, risk taking, mountain vacations, dark chocolate, reading, holiday eves, hospitality, and Africa.

Ryan is an engineer and has worked for over 6 years in international water non-profit.  He is a rockstar husband and the best dad, loves Jesus, makes everyone laugh (the more awkward the better!), loves rock climbing, camping, ultimate frisbee, reading, learning about sustainably alleviating poverty, walking alongside chronic illness sufferers, and breakfast foods!

Grumples and Poppy, our black goldendoodles, bring us so much joy and mischief. They love nothing more than a mountain hike, a huge chew bone, and some spoiling love.

In early 2012, chronic illness became a part of our story when Ryan was diagnosed with severe Crohn's Disease.  You can read about this journey by hopping over to Reaching For Fringe.  This site follows our battle and is a small piece of our role in the chronically ill community.

So grab a cup of coffee, find a comfy spot, and stay awhile!
