July Wrap Up

August is right around the corner and that means pumpkin spice lattes and fall isn't too far either!  My favorite time of year.  I'm not sure how to decorate for fall this year with a busy 2 year old who climbs on everything and would promptly make any decorations his new toys.  Hmmm....

We've had a good summer and a full last week of July.  I'm ready to welcome cooler weather and start to wind down summer.

Giddy and I got a date just the two of us last week.  We went to the Children's Museum in Broomfield (wouldn't really recommend it but still fun to get out) and then to Starbucks for treats!

I couldn't resist getting his picture.  He fell asleep reading.  What an angel toddler!

Not sure why this is a pertinent picture but I made some really yummy nachos for dinner!  It was just black beans, chicken I seasoned and sautéed up quickly, red and green bell peppers also sautéed, chopped tomatoes, cheese and sour cream.  So easy and yummy

Last week we met Daddy for a lunch date.  The weather was perfection so we found a Tibetan restaurant with a shaded outdoor patio.  The boys were angels.  I couldn't believe how well they did!!

This guy always wakes up pretty grumpy from nap so I save his screen time for then.  I just plop hin in front of his favorite movie with a drink and a snack and let him re-acclimate to the real world

Two shirtless boys!  And Baby Boy showing off that sweet double chin!

Saturday evening I had a MOPS leadership meeting.  I signed up to be a table leader and publicity leader for our group this year.  I absolutely love MOPS-I started attending in 2015 right before Gideon was born and it has been something I look forward to every year since.  If you need a MOPS group contact me!

The hottest afternoons are spent lounging on the floor.  We usually open up our tee-pee, watch a show or pull out crafts

This kid!! One minute he's playing with dirty worms and the next minute he's having "coffee".  Such a fun little guy

I had to post some pics of Giddy's garden.  He gets SO thrilled if you ask him to show you his pumpkins.  He waters them daily and even stirs the dirt up a bit to "weed" ha!

He's also growing tomatoes and green bell peppers

Saturday afternoon we went to a birthday party for one of Gid's best friends, Declan.  I love that my best friend's kids are my kid's best friends :)  We bounced in a bounce house, ate cake, and played hard!

End of July + New Things

How is it the end of July already??  We have so much coming up and happening lately!

We chowed down on donuts with friends Friday morning to celebrate Gideon's little friend James turning 2.  We have two birthday parties to end out the month's Saturdays which I think will be a lot of fun.

We also have a backyard camping trip we are going to for Ryder's birthday that will be a blast and I hope the boys love it.  Besides that we have a million doctor and dentist appointments, caseworker visits, bio parent visits, another court hearing for Baby Boy and a million playdates and outings in between.

On another note, I was offered a nursing job at Children's Hospital last week! I am really thankful to be moving out of pediatric home health nursing.  I start in two weeks in the PACU and am so thrilled that it's just 4 times a month!  It's actually the floor that I worked on through nursing school so there were a lot of familiar faces when I went in to interview.  Wahoo! It's the perfect fit to get out of mommy-mode and do something in the grown up world every week.

In addition to my new job we have my 10 year high school reunion in about 2 weeks and that is blowing my mind!  We are going (much to my own surprise) mostly because two of my good friends are planning it ha!  I think it will be fun to catch up with people I haven't seen and show off Ryan Decker and enjoy a night out together with no kiddos.

It's always around this time of year with August just around the corner that I get excited to walk the back-to-school aisles at Target and smell the crayons and new folders and backpacks (creeper!!) and welcome fall in a few weeks.  I can't wait for pumpkin flavored everything and will be starting that before it's socially acceptable.

Well that is a little update on us with lots of pics below!

My diapered boy giving some morning cuddles-lucky mama!  Gosh he looks enormously tall

This kid!  He is such a hot mess most days.  He has a mouth full of old french fries, his friend Penny's sunglasses on, and a shopping cart full of who knows what.  I just love him.

Sorry to creepily blur our Baby's face-didn't have time for his usual heart.  These boys love their baths!

Declan is 2 and LOVES babies!  Him and Gideon barely played, Dec just wants to hold babies

Daddy and Giddy snuggles.  I love his batman jammies

Here are our donut pics!  We went to Lamar's and it was delicious-everyone was a sticky mess

Donut boy

I saw this on Facebook and thought this is my life summed up on a mug.  I pray this everyday-ha!

Family pic!  Everyone had on stripes minus Ryan as my mom pointed out

This was one of the funnest birthday parties we've been to lately.  Our friends rented an indoor soccer field and there were lots of balls and a big parachute to play with.  We ate pizza and cupcakes after. Such a fun Saturday morning!

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

Baby Boy 7 Month Update

Age: 7 months

Oh big 7 month old boy!  You're more than 1/2 a year old.  WOW!  Baby Boy has been busy this month with a lot of first, he's getting stronger and bigger by the minute, and showing us what a curious little bug he is.  He's driving Gideon nuts scooting around and "chasing" him and laughing anytime Ryan wrestles him.  He's content 99% of the time and is  such a lovable little guy

Weight: 21 lbs

Length: 27 inches

Sizes: Dude is ENORMOUS!  People constantly comment on his size and what a sturdy boy he is. He is in mostly 9 month clothes and I have unpacked 12 month pajamas for nighttime.  His little belly is just so squishy!  He's size 5 diapers at night because otherwise he blows out by morning but by day he is size 4's.

Eyes: As his Auntie Anna says, his eyelashes are to die for!  Long, curly and dark.  His eyes are the most vibrant blue and even now you can tell a lot is going on in that mind of his with just one look into his eyes.

Hair: Red! I love that he's a little redhead.  He fits right in :)

Sleeping:  For the most part he is a great sleeper.  He has hard nights and random poor naps but what little one doesn't?  He wakes up around 6:30 am and naps again at 8:00 am.  He normally naps until 9:30 am and plays hard until nap #2.  He naps from 12:30-2:00 (ideally) and finishes off the day with one little catnap at 4:00 pm.  I can't seem to quite get him to two naps.  He sleeps 6:45 pm until he wakes up the next morning.  He sleeps right through the night and very very rarely wakes up at night

Eating: Baby mostly drinks his bottle easily but once a day or so has a hard time drinking.  He cries and arches so we do breaks and burps and he always relaxes and finally eats.  It's exhausting for all involved!  He is LOVING solid and I've taken a baby led weaning approach with him.  He gnaws on zucchini, squash, cantaloupe, peppers, watermelon, banana, cheese sticks, pita bread, and avocado.  I know he wants to try more and I'll keep introducing.  He continues to hate/gag/despise purees ha!

Milestones/Words: He's semi-crawling!  He can get anywhere he wants to go but doesn't quite have the hand and leg synchronization down.  He rocks and scoots and slides all over the house.  He popped his first tooth in the last few days and was a sad boy through that!  He's sitting up mostly independently but I still watch him because he's been known to topple

Memorable Outings:  We adventured to Tiny Town with Ryan's parents and all the big cousins last month.  Catfest was memorable even though we didn't let him get his grabby little hands on any live cats.  And the 4th of July was memorable-he "swam" and was mesmerized by sparklers

Favorite toys/activities:  His favorite toy of all time is my phone!  He also loves balls, a musical floor piano my mom bought him, anything worth chewing, and any type of material that crunches.  He is very interested in tall trees and leaves (he'll stare for minutes!), animals of all kinds, helping Ryan cook breakfast in the carrier, and his beloved evening walks in the stroller

Funny Moments: Ryan and I were tickling Baby this evening, talking silly to him, tossing him in the air and getting ALL the belly laughs.  It was so sweet!

Looking forward to:  I can't wait for him to keep moving and getting bigger.  Gideon is warming up to baby day by day and I think they will have so much fun playing this fall.  I love seeing him try new foods and experience new textures and toys.  He's a curious boy and it's a joy to have a front row seat to his discovery of the world

You've Kept Us Busy, July!

July has been such a bizarre mixture of busy, relaxing, hot, fun and boring.  Ha!  We could have experienced all of those things just in one morning.

One thing Gideon is really good at is independent play.  The dude can entertain himself for hours.  I don't even know what he does with his time but he's usually busy tinkering with something.  We have been spending our July mornings out back while it's still cool after baby goes down for his morning nap.  We garden, play chalk, ride his cars and I sip coffee on the rocking chair while he bug hunts.  I love our mornings at home.

We've also had plenty of adventures and I'm glad to get them out of the house too and spend time with friends and learning or exploring something new.   It's so dang hot though so I'm worn out by the end of it and can't wait for the fall to try to zoo and parks again.  Here's all our July pics so far:

Is this not he Fitbit of a mom?  NO ACTIVE MINUTES (like an actual walk or work out) yet somehow I still got in over 12,000 steps and almost 5.5 miles ha!

This about sums up a house of boys!  Wrestling or waiting in line to be wrestled

We had a really nice 4th of July with friends and family.  We spent the morning at a friend's pool, had a picnic lunch and played.  We left pretty tired from some 2 year old meltdowns but overall the pool, food and friends was a blast!  After naps, Ryan's parents came over for dinner and sparklers.  We grilled steaks, made smashed red potatoes and gobbled patriotic cupcakes for dessert.

This is one of our favorite views.  Ryan and I always say we could sit on their back patio all day and just enjoy the view

Gideon had his fill of Popsicles, brownies and sugar on the 4th

George wears his American flag shirt every 4th-it's tradition!  And Gid thought sparklers and poppers were the absolute best!

The rest of the month we've been hanging out by the kiddie pool, going on walks, Giddy adventured to some parks with his Gram, and we get out our creative bins and art supplies most afternoons.

One other activity that's been blessing me is my weekly Bible study with some of my favorite women.  We're reading "Out of the Spin Cycle" by Jen Hatmaker and our discussions are so so life-giving every week.  With this same group of women, I'm also participating in an online daily devotional.  If you don't have it, download the app First5.  It's a Proverbs31 Ministry tool and it's literally a 5 minute devotional and scripture tool.  We created a group on the app so we can post our thoughts on the devotional, what we're learning and as accountability, take a picture of our quiet time and encourage one another to do the same.  Just what we all need in our young motherhood journeys!

I'm so blessed by this group of women and the encouragement this summer!  I can't wait to keep it going in the fall and get back into MOPS in September too.  I miss those weekly rhythms that the fall brings.

Giddy and his Poppy girl lounging on the back deck

Last Saturday we went to Catfest and it was so fun.  Gideon LOVES cats and kittens so he thought it was like the best morning ever.

Giddy was so gentle with the kitties

My sweet Giddy was so sick earlier this week.  He had a fever of 103 and no energy at all.  If you know Gideon you know that if he never stops moving.  I soaked up all the cuddles and my sweet sleepy toddler.

He still wasn't feeling awesome the next day but he was restless at home so we headed to Chick-Fil-A for Cow Appreciation Day.  He got free ice cream on top of his free meal because they thought he was so cute

We are starting potty training soon!  I bought him some big boy undies that he found before I intended and LOVED them!  He wears them over his diapers now ha!  On the right, two sweet boys surveying their backyard kingdom

We went to open gym and Baby had a great time practicing his crawling.  Gid was barely still enough for me to get a picture.  He jumped into the foam pit, ran on the tramp and was a wild man!

Last Saturday morning with my boys

This was my morning today-a quiet time, a plate of fresh snacks and coffee and no toddler or babies needing me.  Ahhhhh sweet relaxation!

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
