Christmas 2017

I will be brutally honest and just say this was one of our more draining Christmases to date.  There was a lot that was special and so much to be grateful for but the ages and stages of our kiddos didn't lend itself for much rest or really soaking up the holiday.

All that to say, if you had a stressful holiday chasing toddlers, disciplining, figuring out how to help a 2 year old navigate severe stimulation-overload and getting an overwhelmed 1 year old to nap....you're not alone!

I snapped some pictures of the highlights which are the memories I want to last :)

On Friday night I put together a cheese board and we had a mini date night in after the boys were asleep.  We spent a few hours snacking, playing Crokinole and chatting.  Ryan paired wine with his apps and I had a lemon La Croix

We were also able to sneak away the week before for a REAL date night!  We went to Arvada School House and really enjoyed it!  It's a neat atmosphere, decorated like an old school house with lots of whimsical touches.  I had the shrimp and grits and Ryan had a BBQ pork sandwich-both delicious!

The boys dove into some crafts Thursday night and I would say Sir tried to eat more crayon than he did any actual drawing ha!

Don't worry, they are just butter knives!  This kid LOVES him some swords, knives, or anything he can yell HI-YAH and twirl around

On Saturday we went to church.  We walked there in really pleasant weather but by the time service was over it was 20 degrees and snowing!  Woops! We booked it home.  It was nice to celebrate a few days early at church and listen to an incredible message from our pastor

On Christmas Eve I read and sipped decaf coffee while the boys naps.  It was the quietest moment I had all weekend and it was a gift to sit by the tree and just enjoy

I got almost no pictures of Christmas morning this year but that's ok.  I've read the events you don't capture with a camera are the ones you remember most clearly in your memory.  Not sure if that's true ;) My parents did an incredible job making the boy's Christmas morning special with BIG stockings and fun Santa presents

This is how Sir felt about 2 hours after being up.  Just needed to lounge on his new sleeping bag with a bottle.  Too sweet!!

We spent the rest of the day with Ryan's family where the boys were again SO blessed by their Grandma and Grandpa Decker with thoughtful toys that will keep them busy all winter long.  Ylo (my MIL) had 12 grandkids to buy for this year plus all of her own kids and their spouses. She is a busy little Christmas elf!

And a final picture that pretty much sums up how we feel after a week of celebrating ha!

Sir's 1st Birthday Party & 1 Year Update

This post is a little late but so it goes with a second baby :)  We had a family birthday party for Sir on his actual birthday.  He had the cutest smash cake his Gram bought him, we tied up blue and silver balloons, feasted on a massive breakfast spread and let all the cousins play for a several hours.  Those things pretty much equate to Sir's dream day!

I think he felt celebrated and loved!  Happy Birthday to our perfect, fat little Sirloin who brings so much joy to our lives!!

Age: 12 months!

Our sweet Sir is officially 1 years old!  This year has been so many firsts for him and for us.  We are thankful for his grace and patience along the way.  Sir you have blossomed from a tiny, sick newborn into a bouncing, energetic, bright little boy!  You find so much joy in being around your favorite people, walking laps around the kitchen holding whatever toy you love that day and making sure you're in on all the action.  We love your smart brain, curious nature, bravery to try new things and laid back personality.  Our lives wouldn't be the same without you precious boy!

Weight: 24 lbs

Length: 30.5 inches

Sizes: He's rocking the 18 month clothes now and I need to dig out even more for him.  He still doesn't love to wear shoes but when he does he wears a size 4.  He's in size 5 diapers and a size 5 overnight diaper seems to be able to contain his massive mornings poops again ha!

Eyes: Beautiful blue and I believe they will stay that way forever

Hair: Definitely still red although it's lightened up a little  I gave him two haircuts in the last month much to Ryan's dismay.  He said I chopped his curls but really I just saved this kid from a mullet.

Sleeping:  He is the BEST sleeper and we are forever thankful about that.  He naps from about 9:00-10:00 these days and then from about 1:15-3:00.  His bedtime is around 7:15 p.m. and he sleeps solidly until 7:00 a.m. the next morning

Eating: His favorite foods include peanut butter toast, sausage, blueberries, clementines, chicken, applesauce, rice puffs, black beans and the occasional chocolate chip that Ryan sneaks him.  He's eating with his hands pretty independently and we just help with bites if he's distracted.  He likes to hold a fork or spoon but doesn't really use it yet.

We've started cutting back on formula and are down to 3 bottles per day.  I have been doing 50% formula and 50% whole milk which he is tolerating really well!

Milestones/Words: We have a walker!  He actually started taking reliable, longer set of steps right on his 11 month birthday and has been cruising around ever since.  We have heard him say Ma-Ma, Da-Da, Wow and Hi.  Sir loves to clap, pull items out of a box or drawer, babble endlessly, shake his head no and play hide and seek.  He is always the seeker and when he finds Ryan hiding he is SO proud!

Memorable Outings:  We took the boys to the Children's Museum and there is a baby/toddler room that he gets so tickled over.  As soon as he sees it he starts clapping his fat little hands together and plays hard the entire time we are there

Favorite toys/activities:  He loves a train he received for his birthday, musical instruments or anything that jingles or makes music, building block towers, pushing around anything that he can (chairs, benches, ride on toys), and carrying around his beloved broom or frying pan.  He still loves walks in the sunshine, being in the carrier, exploring the library and bath time.

Funny Moments: He LOVES to make us laugh by holding up a toy over his face and then popping out from behind it.  His grin is enormous and if you laugh then you have just made his whole day!

Looking forward to: I'm so happy he's a walking boy so I look forward to him learning more about the world and discovering what he likes and enjoys!

Fa La La La Christmas Fun!

Just a post of December happenings and pictures.  Ryan's new job allows him every Friday off because he works 10 hour days Monday through Thursday.  That makes the first part of the week feel loooooong sometimes but then Friday rolls around and we hit the ground running to our 3 day weekend!

Last week we brought our friends dinner who just had a new baby girl and then stopped at a nearby park to play.  Gideon loves to climb, slide, teeter totter and run off all that boy energy!  Sir tries to shove every stick and rock into his mouth so he is mostly in the carrier or in a swing

These two are always busy building something, tinkering with tools, or generally making a huge mess.

Last weekend we went to the Zoo Lights with my parents.  It was BEAUTIFUL and I think one of their best years yet.  It was a really mild night and the boys both did well (minus a meltdown from Giddy regarding the train ha!).  We saw a hippo opening it's mouth 180 degrees, Giddy petted a snake, we rode the train, and enjoyed all of the amazing lights.

Every tree and bush was lit up and there were tons of larger displays of animals or holiday decorations.  Gideon ran from site to site loving it all.  Plus he got to end his night petting a snake.  He was very gentle and very serious about this task :)

Sir was a warm little snuggle bunny in his stroller.  I bought both of the boys new winter coats and snowsuits for Christmas and we may have busted them out early for this outing.

These two!  Always so busy.  Sir loves to carry around that little broom and Gideon's FAVORITE activity of all time is pulling out a mini tool set Ryan gave him, a flashlight and his one big screwdriver he is allowed to have.  He fixes his truck, parts to the vacuum I lay out or lately he's been tinkering with my KitchenAid mixer.  He is so precise and such a boy.

These two were busy looking for Daddy last Thursday night.  They just got out of their bath, smelled like lavender lotion and we spent several peaceful minutes at the window looking at Christmas lights until Ryan pulled into the driveway

This sweet little snuggle bug came down with a nasty viral throat infection on Wednesday.  His pediatrician said his throat and tonsils were on fire :(  He literally had just gotten over a double ear infection last week.  So it's been a lot of Tylenol, long naps, warm baths and snuggles for this sick Sir

Giddy, my mom and I did some Christmas baking  on Friday.  Gid was pretty helpful with rolling and mixing but finally ditched us to watch a Christmas movie.  We made snowballs, fudge and sugar cookies.

Last Thursday my MOPS group had a Christmas party as our weekly event.  We had a festive coffee and hot chocolate bar, delicious breakfast as always, our $5 gift exchange and several fun games with prizes.  I ended up with a Starbucks gift card and Burt's Bees chapstick.  SCORE!

My table sent my up for the gift wrapping contest.  We didn't win, ha!

Our group photo in the photo booth.  We were wrapping up our mentor mom.  This is a sweet group of ladies that I'm thankful to have met and grow with

We spent the morning at the Children's Museum and I didn't take even one single picture.  Sometimes I like not recording every minute and just enjoying what's happening with the boys.  Tomorrow is SIR'S FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!  We planned him a Winter "One"-derland party and I think he will be thrilled with his smash cake, breakfast, presents and special day.

But now, this is what the Lord says—
    he who created you, Jacob,
    he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

Christmas Is Coming

We are back this week and hitting the Christmas scene hard!  I'm still battling INSANE pregnancy insomnia but trying to ignore that and how it makes me feel and enjoy what this Christmas season brings.

Kids find all the details about Christmas so magical-they soak it all up.  Gideon and Sir both look forward to our nightly walks around the neighborhood to see Christmas lights.  We bundle them up in the stroller and head out every night after dinner.  The highlights are a Santa that pops out of a port-a-potty (so totally creepy but Gideon's favorite) and spotting baby Jesus in the manger.  Gid has taken to carrying around our wooden baby Jesus from my nativity set I bought in Jerusalem and kissing him. Too sweet!

Both boys are at fun ages to introduce them to Advent, Santa, presents, traditions, and special outings.  Also Gideon is an egg nog lover!  But only from Costco or his grandparents's house, apparently...I bought stupidly priced organic egg nog at the store for him-he tried one sip and declared, "Yuck."

 *eye roll*

I guess I'll put it in my coffee for the next month instead.  Lots of pics in this post of what we've been up to!

Last Saturday we went to the Westminster City Hall lighting with our friends The Bolts.  We could hear the Mayor talking about something over the microphone but it was super muffled.  I asked Ryan to get something out of the diaper bag for me and as he was bent down focused on that task they lit up the WHOLE place!  That's what the Mayor was saying I guess! I felt terrible to have made him miss the big moment ha!

City Hall is where Ryan works now so he gets to leave this amazing wonderland every night on his way home.  They truly did a spectacular job-the lights were beautiful

Gideon played in the nativity set for awhile and by play I mean he found a stick and used it as a sword and pointed it at Joseph and the Shepherds

We have been doing our Advent devotional every night before bed.  Mostly it's just Ryan, Giddy and I doing it because Sir goes to bed earlier and is uninterested.  We do our Jesus Storybook Bible devotional with the ornaments I received from a recent exchange and then as Gideon's reward for paying attention he gets to do his chocolate calendar his Grammy gave him

A few weeks ago I attended an Advent ornament exchange with 24 other ladies.  We all brought 25 of a certain ornament coordinating with a day of advent and the corresponding Bible verse.  I loved seeing all the handmade ornaments (so much creativity!).  We hang ours on our big Christmas tree and Gideon gets such a kick out of the whole tradition

Look at this naughty monkey!  Climbing on boxes in his diaper to get to a train ornament he wanted.  His smile is too sweet here.

On Saturday we went to meet Santa!  My mom found a free Santa in Olde Town Arvada so we spent the morning going to a German bakery for Christmas treats, adventuring in the library, and then meeting the big guy.  The Santa was very charming-totally sweet with a real beard and incredibly nice to my boys

Um, has Gideon ever been prouder of having a dollar bill??? So cute

Santa was a hit with Sir but Giddy felt differently about the whole experience. At least he got a candy cane out of it!

These three chubster cousins!  Sir, Fynn and Caius all were born within 3 weeks of each other.  They are all rolly polly sweet boys and play very sweet together.  We were all together unfortunately for Ryan's grandma's funeral a few weeks ago so while it was a sad reason to get together I'm always thankful for our great family to spend time with

My mom ordered this shirt for Sir's first birthday coming up!!!  I think it's so cute and he can keep wearing it year round

This morning while baby took a 2 hour nap Giddy and I pulled out all the crafts and activities and had some fun together.  The rice sensory box was A TOTAL MESS and I think he liked the pom pom pick up game and coloring best anyway.

I mailed out over 60 Christmas cards this week which felt very freeing.  I kept worrying I would lose them all or spill something all over them (first world problem) so I'm happy they are on their way to people.  We have a MOPS Christmas party this week, Denver Zoo lights, a cousin birthday party and volunteering at church to look forward to.  It's a full week of fun outings and events :)

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21
