Ryan's New Job at Lifewater

Oh hey guess what?  This week Ryan starts his new job!

SAY WHAT?!

We have officially accepted a new job for Ryan with an organization called Lifewater.  WAHOO!!!

Wednesday is his first day working remote at this new job (remote is temporary...keep reading).  It was definitely hard saying goodbye to those he has worked with at Healing Waters but the last 5.5 years there gave him a pretty incredible foundation  for what he's stepping into now.

Lifewater is a Christian non-profit working to end the global water and sanitation crisis. Since 1977 they have served over 2.5 million children with life-saving clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.  Truly incredible work!  They are based in San Luis Obispo (SLO), California so Ryan is working in our home office for now.

His new title with LW is WATSAN Specialist which stands for a "water and sanitation" specialist.  His new role will utilize both his Engineering and Programs background.

Besides a new job title, one of the biggest pieces to our new adventure is a move. Two moves, actually.

First, we move to to SLO mid-October so that Ryan can train at headquarters for about 9-12 months.  After that we have the enormous privilege and task to move to Awassa, Ethiopia for a 2 year contract working in field.

It's totally wild and absolutely what we should be doing!

San Luis Obispo, CA details:

SLO is a gorgeous costal town home to Cal Poly, right on the ocean, and is an incredible mild micro-climate that doesn't get a whole lot colder than 65 degrees at any point.  We have heard over and over that this is "the happiest city in the USA" and a wonderful place to live.

Awassa details:

It is a gorgeous city set right on beautiful Lake Awassa with mountains towering on all sides.  There are medical facilities, a small airport, running water and electricity where we will live.  80% of Ethiopians live rurally so Ryan will be traveling frequently to very rural communities to work.  It's an adventure for sure and we will post frequently while we are out there (again, moving to Africa ~Summer/Fall 2017).

Ultimately I would say we are feeling enthusiastic, eager, nervous, stressed, honored, thankful and confirmed about this decision.

PLEASE be praying for us as we have so much ahead of us the next few weeks and months.  We need prayers for our move, living in new places with a little one, organization, calm, fruit of the spirit in the midst of stress, ease of transition, and bravery.

This is a really unique, exciting time in our lives and we are eager to keep sharing here on the blog.

Check back in for more updates!

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
