Ryan's last day with his ostomy was yesterday, June 2nd! We were so excited and just a little bit nervous. Ryan had a pre-op appointment Tuesday afternoon so we drove down for that.
They gave him two antibiotics to take at 6 pm, 9 pm, and 7 am just to get his gut in order for the surgery. The surgeon covered a few details and Ryan signed paperwork and we were on our way. He was allowed one last dinner and then went to clear liquids only after that. At 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning (surgery day) he would need to stop drinking altogether.
To celebrate his last day with an ostomy we went and got him pizza at Pizzeria Locale in Highlands and followed by our FAVORITE ice cream place, Sweet Cow.
Their ice cream "sammies" are so good-homemade cookies sandwiching the most delicious homemade ice cream. Ryan had chocolate chip cookies with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. I had triple chocolate cookies with coffee ice cream.
Delicious "last meal" as we kept calling :)
Ryan had supreme and I had pepperoni. We recommend Pizzeria Locale!
Clearly he was very thrilled about his sandwich. See how big they are?!
We finished off the night by giving him a haircut, taking a long walk, getting a few things around the house done, and then changing his ostomy ONE LAST TIME!
That was so weird.
We have been changing his ostomy 3-7+ times per week for the last 3 years and to know we aren't going to be doing it again is pretty wild. I was so happy for him. His skin has just totally gotten to the point of no return so I am thankful for his surgery.
He told me the other day that honestly he would start feeling depressed if he didn't have a surgical option-that is how bad his skin is. I know it's hard to imagine how skin issues could make you depressed and not able to live life, but just know that's how bad it it!
My husband is a tough guy but you can only take so much. We are so so thankful for a reversal option.
Last one, last change!
Updates to come on surgery day and how he is doing! Prayers prayers prayers please!!
