Fa la la la Fun!!!

This is a HUGE dump post!  So picture overload warning...

This December has been full of so much joy and activity for us!  We have seen lots of friends and family members, enjoyed several seasonal activities, and soaked up all that Christmas is offering us this year.

A typical day for us involves being home and spending the morning playing, reading, and doing chores.  Several times a week Gid and I meet daddy at the gym or for lunch, walk with a friend in Denver, meet up with friends for coffee, or have a babysitting day with Grammy and Gramps.

But our favorite is to play and learn at the same time!  We talked about colors and textures and animals with the blocks (pictured left) and we talked about the names of the major bones in our body, how the heart pumps blood, vaccines, and blood pressure with our medical kit (pictured right).

Gid is a smartie!

Ryan and I always do a Christmas date (last year it was Melting Pot) and this year it was a wine tasting in Denver.  We both enjoyed it so much!  We tried 3 wine tasters, a full glass each, and then a chocolate port dessert wine.

I packed us a huge platter of food pairings for the wine that included salami, prosciutto, several cheeses, crackers, olives, apples, raspberries, chocolate, and almonds.  It was so nice to have my parents babysit so we could get out for a few hours and connect.  We laughed so much that night and had such a blast together.

After the wine tasting we walked downtown and found a German Christmas market so I bought a handmade glass ornament and Ryan bought a pastry.  It was truly the most perfect, relaxing evening to celebrate Christmas together.

Another way Ryan and I are figuring out how to stay connected as a couple and not just as parents is by meeting at the gym on his lunch hour to rock climb together.  My parents watch Giddy Lou so I can venture out.  Our house and Ryan's work are each 6 minutes from our gym so we meet and can get several routes in each if we get our gear on quickly.

It's a nice activity to do that doesn't revolve around Gid (as much we we love the little chub!), gives us both exercise and it's a fun hobby.

Gideon met Santa in person!  Gideon and Jay sat on Santa's lap last weekend and had a great time doing it.  Like my sister captioned it on Facebook, just 3 fat guys in matching hats!

Gideon must love Christmas as much as his mama because #1 I force him to listen to Christmas music all day long with me but also #2 He LOVES the Christmas tree.  If he's sad and I can't figure him out, I just plop him in front of the tree and 100% of the time he is a happy guy in no time at all.

I've learned as a mom that one of my favorite things to do with Gideon is just play.  He's still little so it takes some creativity to interact, but nothing makes me happier than getting a smile or laugh out of him.  My sister snapped both of these pictures.  On the left I was about to throw him in their air and he laughed and laughed.  In the picture on the right he thought getting strapped into the carseat was hilarious so that was a nice change!

Basically, it's important to me to be an interactive mama that has fun with her kiddos and is often down on the floor just exploring and playing with them.

My little heartthrob: Jay Thunell.  This kid is the absolute sweetest little thing!  I call him my coconut because he has such a nice round head haha!  I had the great honor and joy of babysitting him last week and unfortunately for him he didn't know it meant non stop kisses and loving.  I don't think he minded but he is just too yummy to set down.

I was a little sad when he napped because I had way more kisses saved up for him so Gideon and I put him down for a nap and he rested up.  It's an enormous blessing that Gideon has so many cousins his same age.  In 2015 alone there were 3 cousins born!! Aebrynn in March, Jay in October, and Sam in December.

It's baby heaven around here :)

The last important updates that I haven't covered in awhile...

Ryan's recovery post ostomy reversal is truly mind-blowing!  He has typically 2-3 bowel movements per day which is far less than the estimated 10-20 that many ex-ostomates will experience.  He can eat whatever he likes, has stamina and energy, his scars have really begun to heal up, and he has no issues with getting his fistula closed a few months ago.  Overall we are SO grateful we took the risk to reverse his ostomy.  It would have been such a burden and stressor for us having a new baby because the equipment changes and issues associated with his ostomy were so draining and time consuming.

Thank you Lord for a smooth reversal and health for Ryan!

My nursing job is still up in the air.  I am looking to only work 1 day per week for very short shifts, like 4-6 hours.  I'm surprised how hard this is to come by but many families want a consistent nurse several times per week or to have only long shifts fulfilled. We are being patient to find the right fit but I am SO excited to start working and putting this BSN to good use.  Pray for a family or job to come along if you think about it!

That's all the stuff happening in December!  My heart just explodes from the goodness that overflows around us.  I am thankful.

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Gideon: 4 Month Update

Age: 4 months old!  Oh man this kid had changed, grown, and just blossomed so much in only 4 weeks since my last update.  In a sentence: WE LOVE GIDDY!!!  This kid is a good and undeserved gift.  What I know about him so far...he is a one-on-one type of kid.  He adores being tossed around, teased, someone trying to make him giggle, and eye contact so he can just tell you about his day.  Large crowds draw out his serious side.  He observes, contemplates, and generally stays pretty quiet in large groups of people.  He loves the action but prefers to take it all in from the sidelines.  Not sure if that will change but for now it's how he rolls.  This kid absolutely loves laughing.  He loves it when you "launch him", pretend to drop him, look away and then surprise him by looking back at him with a big smiling face, and tickle tickle tickles!  I could go on and on and on but the take home message is that this kid is one of a kind and causes absolute wonder and awe in us.

Weight: 19 lbs!!!!  This kid is enormous.  He is often mistaken for being several months older and is currently sitting in the 95th percentile for weight.  He is a chubby bubby who loves his milkies and is the size of several 1 and 1.5 year olds we know.

Length: Just over 26 inches.  Also puts him in the 95th percentile for height.  He's a tall kid and I'm beginning to believe his pediatrician's prediction that he will be 6'4" (insert my wailing at the thought of my baby being able to pick me up!)

Sizes (diapers, onesies):  He wearing size 3 diapers.  Size 6-9 month onsies and pants and shirts.  He can squeeze into a 3-6 month outfit but it is a tight fit!  Before I know it I'm going to have to bust out my 12 month stuff and he's not even 6 months old yet.  I love having a nice sturdy baby on my hands.

Eyes:  Blue blue blue!  My dad said that he noticed a little lightening up in Gideon's eyes towards the center, like a shade of hazel which I can see now too that he's pointed it out.  He often gets compliments on his eyes while we are out and about and my favorite part is just how round they are.  When I nurse him at night it is just the sweetest thing to look down and even in the darkness still see two huge almond shaped eyes staring up at me.  STAHP your cuteness Giddy!

Hair: This child is often mistaken for being bald but in fact he has quite a lot of very soft fuzzy blonde hair on top.  It's just so hard to see so people think he has a bare noggin.  It is red in the back and a little longer too.  Of course he has the the typical bald spot babies get now that he can move his head all over the place.  Most pictures you can really see the red in his hair and I'm hoping it all comes in that color eventually.

Sleeping:  I will say that I think sleeping is something Gideon has gotten very good at the last month.  He sleeps pretty reliably from 6:00 or 6:30 pm until around 10:00 pm when I dream feed him.  Then maybe wakes up for a 2:00 comfort feed but he generally sleeps until 5:00 am without another peep.  He eats at 5:00 am and then it's back to sleep until about 7:00 am.  I'm noticing the last few nights he likes to talk in his crib for a little longer that usual so maybe he's adjusting his bedtime closer to 7:00 pm.  We'll just go with the flow and see what he needs.

During the day I can usually count on 1 nice long nap of 1.5-2 hours and two other shorter naps of 30-45 minutes.  I'm working with him to lengthen those 30 minute naps because they just aren't restful for him.  I would say he's a great sleeper and all his smiles tell me he's a well rested kid!

Eating:  The thing that Gideon is best in life at is eating! Besides being super swoony and handsome, or course.  He eats every 2-2.5 hours during the day time now which is wondrous!  I have time now to run to the gym with Ryan on his lunch hour, accomplish several errands at once, or make a trip to the library without worrying about him.  He's definitely in a stage of preferring to be swaddled up in his own room in the dark to eat his best meals.  He'll nurse a bit somewhere else but mostly he just squirms and cries and doesn't eat much of anything when we aren't home.  Lucky for that kid we are home a lot and our outings are short but I won't be sad when he gets over that.

This kid REFUSES a bottle with a will power that I did not know existed.  I do appreciate his strong will and ability to stand strong on his opinions ;)  At this point everything I'm reading says to just forget the bottle now that he's 4 months.  We are going to try to do a few early learning sippy cups and straws because I want to be working 1 day a week soon and I need him getting calories while I'm gone.  Gideon has taught me a lot of about patience with the bottle, to introduce it earlier, and that I have a mega boobie monster on my hands!

Milestones:  At 15 weeks Gideon rolled over from front to back.  He's rolled about 5 times total so far and is still surprised at his own ability ha!  He has perfect head control, likes to sit in his bumbo, and is obsessed with standing.  I can't convince him to sit even when he's swaddled up and I'm burping him.  I told him I feel like I'm burping a miniature mummy! He has found his fingers and loves to chew on them and hold his own hand. He mimics facial expressions, smiles, hold eye contact, knows when he is about to be fed, and anticipates nighttime routine pretty well.  He's a smart kid and incredibly curious and bright.

Memorable outings:  Once or twice a week Gideon has started coming to the climbing gym with us and hangs out in his GoPod while we climb or on a blanket staring up at the huge wall.  At 17.5 weeks Gideon met Santa and sat on his lap.  So sweet!  We have mostly been home the last few weeks with all of the holidays happening but I anticipate some mountain outings and hikes as he gets older.

Favorite toys/activities:  Favorite toys include his bouncer, laying in his little cloth floor gym and looking at the Christmas tree, sitting in his bumbo while mama cooks dinner, and going for rides in the stroller.  His ALL TIME favorite activity is bubble baths with dad.  Every single night we do a bubble bath with this delicious smelling organic bubble bath and it's his dad-time right before bed.  Ryan tells Gideon about his day and they catch up while Gideon kicks, splashes, and eats more bubble than he should.  I get a little break before our bedtime routine and it really relaxes Gid before bed.

He loves to chew on a teething necklace his Grammy bought him, his Sophie giraffe, and he'll gum (but not really suck) on a Nuk pacifier.  One of my favorite activities is putting Gid in his bouncer and then I pull up a giant pile of library books and I read to him while he bounces and looks at the pictures.  We do it every day and probably read 15 books a week.

Words/sounds:  This kid LOVES to talk!  "Ha-goo" is still his go-to phrase of greeting which is adorable.  He mimics vowels and random sounds he hears.  He has been laughing for quite awhile now but he has the absolute best belly laugh and little giggles you have ever heard.  I send at least one video a day to his daddy and other family members of that sweet sound.

Nicknames:  New ones this month...Giddy Con Queso (from daddy), Giddy Lou Who (from Aunt Linny), Giddy Puff (from Aunt Linny), Giddy Face (from Maggie), Giddy Pantz (from Maggie)
The usuals...Giddy Bear, Giddy Up, Gid, Giddy, Itty Giddy Titty Monster with the tiny hiney, G (from Uncle Clint), Mister, Man Cub

Funny moments:  Just today I must have surprised Gideon because I sort of popped into his line of vision and with a huge smile said something like "HEY YOU!"  He just laughed and laughed and laughed!  It was the cutest thing and he had Ryan and I just cracking up at his joy.  I laugh when he sneezes and then farts.  We laugh when something scares him and his eyes widen up and his arms flail out.  We crack up at his giggles when daddy launches him into the air like a rocket or mommy pretends to drop him.  Both must make his tummy drop and tickle and he lets us know!

Looking forward to:  This is absolutely such a fun stage that I hate to always be thinking about "the next stage".  Every time I see him conquer a new skill or gain new dexterity or memory it makes me excited to see him accomplish the next milestone though.  I look forward to him crawling so he can explore, gaining more interest in reading, getting to experience solid foods in a few months because I just think he will have so much fun playing with and tasting foods.

If I haven't said it enough, I'll say it again:  THIS KID IS THE BEST!

Christmas Tea at the Brown Palace

Last week my mom, sister, baby Jay and I all went to the fancy schmancy Brown Palace Hotel for afternoon tea!

This is the most special event because the hotel is absolutely decked out in Christmas beauty and it's such an out of the ordinary event.  I just feel so fancy sipping fresh brewed tea and eating fancy pastries.

We have each been to Brown Palace tea before but not for several years because you have to make reservations MONTHS in advance.  We just happened to snag a reservation in September and I couldn't believe we made it in.

Each person gets to order their own pot of tea from a huge selection (I ordered a yummy coconut blend) and you get a three tiered tray of handmade scones, sandwiches, and pastries.  Some of the favorites were cheesecake on a gingerbread crust and buttermilk scones with devonshire cream and raspberry jam.

There were live Christmas carolers, a piano player, stunning decorations all around, and wonderful company.  SO happy to celebrate this season with my mom and sister and sweet little sleeping nephew.

Overall, a beautiful, fancy event to celebrate Christmas!

December Life

I should probably just re-name this blog, "Gideon Obessessions" because he's pretty much the main topic of pictures and posts these days.

Um, hello, look at this face...

(No, Gerber Baby, he will not be your spokesperson and main model, thanks though)

Anyway!  I thought I should do a little December life update so I don't forget what we are up to and what's happening!

Well this chubby little guy brings us more joy by the day.  He has recently started teething so has his sad moments but I would say overall he's still a content, happy kid. We have tried Hyland's teething tablets which seems to help a bit as well as letting him chew on his Sophie giraffe and some teething beads his Grammy Nelson got him.

He's also standing up for as long as his fat legs will let him (we support him of course), he has near perfect head control, and is rocking the sleeping scene like it's his job!  AMEN sayeth me!  I am seriously thrilled that he started sleeping longer and better.

Also he weighs 17 lbs so he is pretty much enormous.  I LOVE IT!

The only tough thing in life for Gideon besides his teeth is the dang bottle.  It's literally his arch nemesis.  I told Ryan I think an excellent baby book would be one where the baby is the superhero and he wants to defeat his enemy The Bottle (much to his mom's dismay).  I think I would make some big money off that since I know I'm not the only parent out there with this issue.  This kid can't be fooled by a bottle and knows he prefers the real thing!

Sigh.  I guess it could be worse.

Ryan is seriously so busy at work and is learning a lot about some new aspects of his job.  He's paving the way for Healing Waters to have excellent monitoring and evaluation tools for their ministry as well as still doing his responsibilies as Program Director/Engineer.  Very impressed by him!

We rejoined the rock climbing gym near our house and look foward to getting back into that.  Just a few nights ago Ryan went to the gym after dinner and worked out while I was on bedtime duty.  When he got home we swapped and I headed out for a 7:30 pm strong yoga class.  Luckily we live 6 minutes from the gym so it's not hard to both make it in one night.

I had a personal goal to finish up all my modules, tests, and checklists for my new nursing job by December 1!  And I made my goal.  While I write this I am currently talking with my hiring agency about which family I will be working with and can't wait to settle on a schedule and permanent position.  I'll look forward to sharing more as details are decided upon.

December is full and wonderful for us!  It's so crazy to think that December 19, 2014 we were just finding out I was pregnant.  I never would have dreamed that just one year later our sweet, smiley, perfect Gideon Decker would be with us.

Gideon and his "twin" cousin Aebrynn.  We joke that these two could be twins with their chubby cheeks and bald heads!  Gideon is 3 months and Aebyrnn is 8.5 months.

Dreamy in his autumn sweater

Can you guess who is who?!  The Decker gene is STRONG!  I always thought Ryan and Gideon looked the same but then I saw this picture of George (Ryan's dad, the one in black and white) and was SHOCKED!!!  My son and his grandpa are literal twins lol

When the weather isn't too too cold we have been bundling this baby up and going for some evening walks.  Does he ever stop smiling and loving life?  Nope!

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.

Thanksgiving 2015

My posts are a little out of order but that's OK!

Thanksgiving 2015 was one to remember!  Gideon enjoyed his first Thanksgiving by being passed around the room by all this favorite people and looking like a plump little turkey himself.

We hosted both sides of our families and while missed those who weren't with us but it was still a big crows as usual!  We pulled up an extra table, had our parents bring extra chairs, and just stuffed everyone into our house.

Ryan brined and baked the turkey as usual and it was his BEST one yet!!  Seriously, this guy is the turkey whisperer.  My mom and sister and I made homemade pies earlier in the week-pumpkin, chocolate pecan and a carmel apple cake.  YUM!  I made a sweet potato casserole and everyone else contributed the other side dishes.

It was a low stress fun Thanksgiving.  We started the morning out by watching the parade (Gideon watched his first TV and loved the Rockettes, little tease!) and finishing up cooking and then had a house full of people by 1:00.  Such a sweet day and day absolutely brimming with blessings.

We are grateful!

Look at that happy baby boy!!

Oh my the food was seriously EXTRA scrumptious this year.  Not sure why but everyone just was really good at cooking lol

My mom made us laugh because this table of adults was the boring table and the other table was full of all the kids and she declared that one the "fun table" haha

Cousins!!  Left to right: Sawyer, Henry, Ryder, Rilyn, Gideon

I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.

Welcoming Christmas and Advent

I am so thrilled that it's Christmas time!  #1 Because we have new little Giddy Bear that we get to share this magical season with and #2 Because it's my second favorite time of year (after fall)

Last Thursday after all the Thanksgiving guests had left and we had eaten a second huge plate of leftovers (while watching Inside Out--such a cute movie), my sweet husband lugged the Christmas decorations up from the crawlspace for me.  I decorated that night while I sipped a glass of wine and was so happy I did!

Our home is merry and cheery and gorgeous right now.

My favorite is the fireplace because I FINALLY hung up stockings this year.  I never had them before but I got these crazy cute stockings like seriously 90% off last year at this store closing. This time last year I didn't even know we had a baby on the way so to now hang up a stocking for my little peanut is so wonderful.

Another rhythm we are setting up this year is Advent.  I ordered Ann Voskamp's Advent devotional last year, The Greatest Gift, and it's pretty magical!

While we have ambitions to do it as a family so far I have just incorporated into by morning quiet times but we are going to catch up tonight!  It's really special to make sure to walk through Advent and quiet our hearts from this chaotic season.

That's just a quick Christmas update but hoping this season is bright and merry and restful so far for you!

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

Merry December everyone!

We are already thrilled for the Christmas season and are totally giddy that it's finally December!  Well mostly just I am overly excited, but I love what this season offers us and means.

Celebrate Jesus this month and we hope you experience His goodness every single day of the month.

Gideon: 3 Month Update

Age: 3 months!  Oh how we love this precious baby boy!  This kid is so adaptable, curious, sweet, smiley, content, and easy going.  He is so pleased to just watch everyone around him but will happily "talk" (aka coo and babble) at one person for several minutes at a time.  He really gets a serious look on his face and will tell you everything you wanted to know about his day.  We melt.  He also laughed out loud for the first time at around 11.5 weeks and Ryan and I got to both be there for that.  SWOON!

Weight: Approximately 15 lbs

Length: Approximately 26 inches

Sizes (diapers, onesies):  He's in size 2 diapers and still wearing 3- month clothes.  It's so fun to put him in little jeans or kakhis with a sweater now.  Such a very big boy!

Eyes:  His eyes have stayed a really beautiful shade of blue and I just love those sparkly eyes!  He has the longest eyelashes that are so dreamy and I tell him all the time that ladies pay big bucks for lashes like that.  His Aunt Lindsay often tells him how gorgeous he is lol I think it's the red hair/blue eye combo ;)

Hair:  I got my redheaded baby I always dreamed of!!!  This kid has my exact red/strawberry hair and I just adore it.  It very very light  on top so he looks practically bald. And he does have a lovely bald spot on the back of his head now that he's moving his head more.  I kiss his soft little head of hair every minute of the day.

Sleeping:  We had two HARD few weeks of sleep.  From about weeks 9-11 sleep was painful.  I would get a consistent 3-4 hour stretch during the first part of the night and then my sweet little Giddy was up every 1.5 hours after that.  I knew that would happen with a newborn and more mentally prepared, but when I have a 2-3 month old I just sort of hoped it would be different. There are probably mamas out there who have sleep a lot worse so I can't really complain but it was still hard

Anyway, after what felt like an eternity of just being exhausted all the time my baby cakes started giving me a more relaible 4 hours strech from 10 pm to 2 a, and them waking up again around 5 am for a final feeding before getting up for the morning.  At 11.5 weeks he gave me a 9 hour stretch!!  WHAT??!?!  I was pleased by this on the one side because I got sleep but then I also don't want him sleeping that long and not getting calories.  Oh mamahood and all the thoughts and concerns that come along with it!

Eating:  We have a perfectly porky baby.  He eats every 2 hours or so during the day and is a monster eater.  He's so good at nursing and getting nice and full.  He likes to kick and talk and make lots of noises while he eats which cracks us up!

Milestones:  Giddy has amazing head control and a very strong neck and head.  He follows familiar faces, looks in the directions he hears a noise, and likes to look at toys/objects placed closely to his face.  He mimics noises, babbles, laughs, coos, and even puts weight on his fat little legs for a few seconds at a time.  He is very alert, very interactive, and is such a bright, smart little baby.

Memorable outings:  At 11.5 weeks we all headed to the mountains in Colorado Springs for a work conference for Ryan.  We stayed in a very pretty retreat center, Glen Eyrie, and really enjoyed the time away as a family.  Also, we packed like 900 things to make sure Gid was prepared for the weekend lol  It's crazy all the items a baby needs and uses!

Favorite toys/activities:  Giddy seems to really enjoy one on one time with people. He is content to be in a busy room but really likes to just make eyes contact and talk and babble to one person at a time.

He loves any store we venture out to because of the bright lights and sounds.  We still walk several times per week but he is not enjoying his moby wrap as much and would prefer to be bundled up in his stroller where it's warmer and cozier.  He tolerates tummy time but MOST enjoys when I prop him up and we sing and dance.  This kid loves music and will happily stare at his Daddy playing the guitar.

Words/sounds:  We laugh because you can get Gideon talking by making eye contact with him and saying, "Ah-goo".  It's like translation to him as "Hello!"  It really gets him talking and it's like his own little language that just he understands.  He mimics the noises we make and he likes for us to mimic his noises back.  He has so many little sounds that we have learned to expect that are unique to him.  Love our talkative little boy!

Nicknames:  Giddy Bear, Giddy Up, Gid, Giddy, Itty Giddy Titty Monster with the tiny hiney (he won't be embarrassed of that at all when he's older...), G, Peanut, Sweet Thing, Mister, Man Cub

Funny moments:  Gideon's first laugh had Ryan and I cracking up!  We were talking with him, tickling him, kissing that plump neck and then suddenly he's laughing and laughing!!  It was this hilarious squeaky belly laugh that was the most gorgeous noise I'd ever heard in my whole life. It was too much for my heart!

Looking forward to:  Ryan and I have both said how excited we are to just hear his voice.  Isn't that funny?  We want to know what it sounds like when he talks.  I cannot wait!  But for now I'm looking forward to consistent sleep (doesn't have to be 9 hour stretches, but in that ballpark), my boy being more alert and playful during the day, and discovering more bits and pieces to just WHO Gideon James Decker is

November is Flying By!

I feel like I have to do these enormous dump posts because:
A. My time is limited
B. I never have internet access
C. I'm tired
D. All of the above!

D would be correct!!

I do love blogging but it's just not a weekly habit for me right now.  But I want to keep track of what we have been up to because like I've said 1,001 times here, it's such a blessing to back and reflect on our life over the years.

Anyway, we have been both busy and slow at times.  It just depends on the day.  Some days are nothing but snuggles, naps, and house chores.  Other days we are out with friends, seeing grandparents, running errands or at MOPS.  This last week Ryan had a work conference at a retreat center called Glen Eyrie and Giddy and I were lucky enough to go with him!  We packed up our car (how can one baby require so much stuff?!) and headed out.

The retreat was beautiful.  Set in the CO Springs mountains and in a historic castle.  There wasn't a TV in our room or much in the way of internet so Giddy and I took lots of naps, walked, explored the castle, and rested.  I also complained plenty to Ryan about no internet because I wanted to watch Master Chef :(

Overall it was 3 days well spent; Ryan attended some really informative, interesting sessions for his work and I think the family trip was memorable.

Isn't the castle gorgeous?  The food was AMAZING, the weather was so nice, and I got some quality Giddy time

In between walks and naps we took baths (love hotels and their unlimited hot water) and used the moby wrap to walk all over the grounds

There was wildlife everywhere!  Wild turkeys, deer, and big horned sheep

Let's see what else have we been up to...

Well these two are wonderful!  Ryan is such an involved, caring Dad.  He loves Gideon so much and so well.  He spends time with him, plays guitar and sings for him, changes diapers, and so much more.  Gideon is blessed out of his mind to have Ryan Decker be his Dad!!

I love watching these two interact, Gid is SUCH Ryan's mini-me.  Sometimes Gideon will furrow his eyebrows or get a certain look on his face and it's like I'm staring right at Ryan.  Cracks me up every single time.

We are cloth diapering maniacs!  I've been using some second hand bum genius diapers for the last few months and while I love them, they are a size small and Gid is popping out of them.  We have also used Alva's and aren't quite as pleased with them but the company is sending a new batch to replace what's not working well.

Anyway, Ryan went online and found a KILLER clearance deal on new bum genius diapers so it was Christmas come early for me!!!  Wahoo!!!  I ADORE these new diapers.  They were an investment up front but in the long run are saving us so much dang money on disposables.

Cloth diapers for president!

Look at all those pretty new diapers!

Last week, Gideon, Linny, Jay, and I all headed to the mall to finish up some Christmas shopping for our parents/grandparents.  A trip to the mall with a 3 month old and a 4 week old was an adventure!  There were lots of pit stops for each of us to nurse our babes and I think overall everyone did really well!  It's nice to get out of the house and being with another new mama always makes me more brave.

Overall, there was no crying or melt downs and the babies did great too ;)

Oh, what's that?  Why yes, Gideon is actually 3 months going on 13 years old.  How does he look like a dang teenager here?!  Ack!

Dear Gideon, Please wear hoodies with bear ears forever.  Love, Your Mom

Ryan will totally make fun of me for posting this picture but I am SO proud of my breastmilk supply!  Every day when I file away another bag in my freezer storage I ask him if he wants to come oogle at the amazingness of what my body is creating and he always replies, "No, I don't want to look at your breastmilk again"

Oh husband.  He's actually very supportive but I do brag on my body a lot to him so he's allowed to not want to look at it 10 times a day.  Seriously though, I need to start selling this liquid gold on the black market for some big bucks!  Or donate it and do the noble thing to help thirsty babies who actually need it.  Either way, I've got almost 200 oz saved up and I'm a freakin lactating machine!

Then you have this smiley little boy!  He is the absolute best thing in the whole world.  Every day is not perfect or smooth as the pictures would sometimes lead you to believe but 99% of the time this kid is absolute perfection wrapped up in a lot of chub and rolls.

Gideon is the absolute light of our lives.  Sometimes I think my heart will just burst wide open with love for this tiny human.  He is so dang legit.

How did someone ever have such a great smile?  He has the best on in all the lands

As for me, I have been working on some on-line modules and tests to get ready for starting work ASAP.  I want to be orienting for my new Pediatric RN position in December and hopefully working 1 day a week later in December or January.

I escaped to Starbucks after Gideon went to bed this evening and cranked out some medication tests, safety quizzes, and lots of other important information.  All this fascinating, wonderful RN info is coming back to me and re-igniting my passion for nursing.  I can't wait to get going!

Well that should wrap up this enormously long post for now!  Have a great week homies and stay safe in the snow!

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
