For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
We celebrated Valentine's Day a little differently this year. Instead of romance and chocolates for each other, we went with a group of friends to a local retirement community to enjoy the holiday.
It was a real and true gift to be there with friends and the amazing residents! Older people are seriously wise gifts with some sass and endless knowledge. One woman Gladys, who Ryan and I talked to for over an hour, has this marriage advice to offer:
Think about divorce NEVER. Think about murder...often!
Bahahaha! The lady was married 58 years so she obviously knew something ;) Another woman, Edna told me she thought Song of Solomon was a very sexy book of the Bible (with a huge grin on her face.) Lord, help me they were amazing!
Anyway, our local King Sooper's donated 5 dozen vibrant carnations and our local Panera Bread donated 2 dozen incredible pink and white cookies. I couldn't believe the generous response and enthusiasm from these businesses to help support the project. How neat right!?!
This picture is deceiving. These cookies were HUGE soft butter cookies with homemade icing!
We passed out dozens of desserts and gave each person (mostly the ladies) a flower to let them know they are loved and thought of on Valentine's Day.
Which caused me so much to think of God's love toward us. Like John 3:16 is so clear about. God loved so he gave a gift. The ultimate gift in Jesus!
His love was so rich and so real towards us that He was willing to send the only son He has ever had to stand in our place and atone for our sin. I am astounded at that.
God loved...so he GAVE. Sacrificed. Loved.
Mmmm...I'm just soaking that up this Valentine's Day. To God, real love is giving. True love is so much grander and intricate than flowers and cookies. Honest, deep love went to a cross because God was willing to generously give.
Thankful with a full heart today for sacrifice and Jesus. Happy early Valentine's Day
Love never ends
