Camera Dump

Just a post to share some pictures from the past few days.  Any pictures of Ryan below were pre-surgery so don't get any crazy ideas that he is better :)

Speaking of Ryan!  His surgery went well yesterday morning (Thursday 6/28).  He continues to heal and our prayer is that he improves back to full and excellent health.  To manage the pain, a nice strong narcotic is keeping him happy!  He has been experiencing a fair amount of discomfort, soreness and pain today (Friday 6/29) but that is all a part of the process right?  He has an appointment on Tuesday to have the packing re-done and allow our post-op nurse check him out.  That is always painful and not fun :(  But it's necessary and he's so brave!

We're continually thankful for your prayers, all the texts/call/e-mails, meals, and love.  He still has a long road to full recovery but he's better than he was last month and that is what matters to us!

Ryan playing with the camera!

A marigold present from our friends-also in the pot is cilantro, basil and a tomato!

Stud.  This was last week walking around the block-didn't expect another surgery later on!

Don't ask.  When Ryan is feeling better he apparently takes electronics apart.

Sweet face.  He spent Wed/Thurs/Fri with his "grandparents"

Recent reading-if you haven't read Francine Rivers before you must.  Her writing is fabulous.

Ooops.  How did that get in there??  Don't try to hide it husband!

Surgery Update

Ryan is out of surgery and doing well resting at home.  Dr. W went in today to find the source of the new pain and discomfort Ryan has been experiencing.

She found the same fistula as last time, however it had become irritated, larger in size, and was obviously not healing correctly.  She she cleaned him up, opened up the necessary outlets for everything to drain, and got him back on the road to recovery.

We were at the hospital for 6+ hours today and are exhausted.  We are SO grateful for his medical team and that there were nurses, doctors, a surgeon, an anethestiologist, and volunteers who took such good care of him.

Please keep praying that these fistulas and abscesses NEVER return and that Ryan can heal fully.  Almost 14 weeks of sickness is enough.  Thank you thank you for praying and loving us so well!
I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you
and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
    and his greatness is unsearchable.

Surgery #2

Ryan Decker Update:

We just met with our surgeon at 4:00 pm today for an appointment and can I just say that she is the best.  She immediately scheduled us for an 8:30 am surgery tomorrow, June 28.  Seriously Dr. W is a rockstar and always takes care of us!  Prime example: she and Ryan discussed the superiority of creamy vs. crunchy peanut butter today during his butt exam.  Ha ha!  She is so cool.

To clarify, Ryan has been improving as my past posts have claimed but in the last week he has developed a very painful spot in that perineum area.  It is so tender, painful, and very much like what he experienced last time when he was incredibly sick.  We want to get him in for surgery NOW rather than delay for weeks as we did before and he ends up with a fevers and sickness that seems impossible to undo.

So while many of his symptoms are improving, it's obvious that he is still very sick and we are desperately needing your prayers.  Please pray tomorrow for wisdom over our surgeon's hands, attentiveness from the anesthesiologist, and that the operation would go smoothly.  Please pray that Ryan can recover quickly and feel well.  His last surgery was brutally painful afterwards so we are so praying hard for an easier recovery.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!  And I will give updates as soon as possible tomorrow

Love and appreciate you all!
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Colorado is on Fire

Colorado is on fire.  Please pray!  We are safe and completely unaffected here in Golden but many Coloradans are not so blessed.  We have several friends who live in the Springs who are also safe which we are grateful for.

Can you imagine if your safety, home, family, and everything you knew what threatened?  I can't.  These cities are in desperate need of a miracle.

Pray for these fires to be controlled!  For an outpouring of RAIN over Colorado Springs and the other cities burning.   For decrease in 100+ F temperatures here in CO--the heat does not help.  For peace and comfort over the evacuated families.  And for strength, safety, wisdom, and protection over for those firefighters and workers who are working so hard to put these out.
When the poor and needy seek water,
    and there is none,
and their tongue is parched with thirst,
I the Lord will answer them;
I the God of Israel will not forsake them.

Dinner for New Parents

Can I just mention that we have a lot of very fertile friends?!  It seems like EVERYONE we know is preggo or just had a baby.  So exciting!  We get the sweet deal of loving those parents and babies--but minus the poopy diapers and midnight feedings.  Ha!

We do love to bless our friends who are new parents.  We typically bring dinner or another meal.  Who doesn't love receiving fresh, homemade dinner without the work?!  We recently brought this dinner below to our friends, Elliot & Natalie and their new daughter Mercedes Grace.  What a sweet new family of 3!

The Easy Summer To-Go Menu

Grilled lemon pepper chicken
Garlic bread from the Farmer's Market
Summer Salad with fresh veggies
Juicy watermelon
Homemade chocolate chip cookies

P.S. Wrap any bread items in plastic wrap to prevent it from becoming soggy

Dinner To Go Tips:

*Buy disposable aluminum trays so you don't have to get Tupperware back
*Ask for food restrictions before the day you bring the meal over!
*Prepare what you can the day before so ease stress
*Plan to double the portions so your family has dinner also!
*Consider tucking in paper plates and utensils so they don't have to clean up (I know, I know...not environmentally friendly but we find most people are blessed by this!)

Then be prepared for your friends to be so blessed and so thankful for the break you provided!
...But you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.

Sunday Surprise

Fact: My husband is the BEST surprise giver.  It's a talent he has really.

I've been talking about wanting to get a camera for a few months.  Just day dreaming about it here and there, nothing too serious.  I shared that I wanted a nicer one that can take really good photos; for my blog, for our home, for some other projects I'm working on etc.

And that man listens to me and took the time to bless me BIG time.  Well actually him and our friend Matt BOTH blessed me the most!

Ryan knew Matt was wise in the way of cameras because he owned a nice one and has enjoyed photography.  So Ryan texted him to ask what he knew about cameras or if he knew of any good deals.  Matt texts back..."Yeah I know a good deal.  It's me.  And the camera is free."

Say what??!  How dang generous and amazing is that?  I'm still getting over it.  I'm so so blessed by Ryan's caring heart and Matt's generosity.  Well this particular camera is a Nikon d40 and it is a swoony camera if I ever saw one.  Seriously it is so dang NICE!

I've been having all sorts of fun shooting pictures, making Harpo and Ryan pose, and testing it out.  I feel so legit.

I'm loving Monday surprises and enjoying the creativity using this unexpected new surprise to find some unique beauty!

We had to take the camera into the store to get it cleaned up so here are the first few photos I took with it in there, on the way home, and then acting like paparazzi to my poor dog and husband.  Lots to learn and practice.  But can you tell I love it?!

And he charged them: “Thus you shall do in the fear of the LORD, in faithfulness, and with your whole heart:

Weekends Are For Enjoying

The weekend! Any plans for you?  What would your perfect weekend look like??

My mom and I are going to our local Farmer's Market which I am very jazzed about.  I love to scoop up the fresh baked bread, colorful heirloom tomatoes, and juicy peaches!  Oh man get me home to a big bowl of Greek yogurt to go with those peaches and I am in heaven.

For the rest of the weekend, I am hoping for some activity even if it's low key.  Can I just share that I wouldn't mind if I never sit down AGAIN!!!  I can't wait for bike rides with my husband, long walks, the mountains, yard work...anything to be out and about!  If you can move-count your blessings my friend.  We have never been so ready for physical activity.  In time...I must be patient :)  Otherwise,  I teach 2 & 3 year old Sunday School which is so energizing, and I anticipate Ryan and I taking it easy so he can continue to heal up!

I am praying that Ryan continues to feel better and better so we can start soaking up the summer already!  Crohn's already ruined the tail end of our winter and entire spring, but it will NOT conquer our summer!!  Thursday was a rough day for him in the physical pain department but hopefully the weekend is an easier ride.  We are encouraged by his progress but we are realizing just how weak he is and how much healing his body still has to do.

Enjoy the sunshine, your health, and some sweet people in your life this Saturday & Sunday!

P.S. Picture anyone?!  Enjoy :)

Wow Harpo.  Nice face.

The vibrant, red 4 foot tall bouquet from our friends The Careys!

This is the sweetest thing!  Two kids from the neighborhood have to host a block party for a school service project and this is their invitation!  It has hand drawn pictures and we're instructed to bring a picnic and games :)  Too cute.

Family chaco picture. Did you see those blonde "feet" at the top of the picture?

The gorgeous park just 2 minutes from our house-it was SO nice to finally be out after being cooped up for 12 weeks!  Short walks = progress for Ryan

Ryan's very artistic shot of Harpo and I.  I would post the one I took of Ryan but he mooned the camera...

Book Review: The Searchers

Doubt.  Conspiracy.  Poisonous Religion.  Secrets.  Faith.

Not your typical Christian book!  The Searchers by Joseph Loconte dissects the account of the two men on the road to Emmaus found in the gospel of Luke.  These  men were devout followers of Jesus; however witnessing the Crucifixion produced a shaking of their faith so violent that they were led to crippling doubt in every way and ultimately feeling utterly abandoned.

I had particularly hoped for a more in depth look at the biblical account in Luke of these two roadside travelers.  More context, more in depth look at their faith and walks.  Instead various clips into movies and books whipped me through understanding their experience in relevant ways I was not expecting.

Despite my missed expectations, I enjoyed the easily relateable examples that Loconte guides us through.  This book's content was unexpected but it was helpful to weave together a framework of what these men must have been experiencing in mind and heart towards God and their faith.  I am much more aware of the phenomenon of doubt, choice, and faith than ever before.

Ultimately we're prompted by Loconte to make a choice.  A choice about Jesus.  Christ's life and claims demand consideration from every single person.  Like the men in Luke traveling home because they knew nothing else to do, they had to decide who Jesus was, what to believe, and Who to follow-in a flurry of doubt, political unrest, and at a crucially unique time in history; when God put on flesh.

If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary, that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.

$5 Coupon: iHerb

{I encourage you to head over here for a fabulous giveaway at Working Kansas Homemaker!!}

If you've followed our blog for any amount of time, you know we LOVE holistic, natural, and organic food and products.  Health is important to us because it promotes a high quality of life now and also allows us to steward the bodies that we've been entrusted with.  Who doesn't like to feel their very best?!  Plus, we think natural food is much more delicious and flavorful than the processed stuff ;)

But those organic, natural products can be expensive. And as much as we like them we really like saving money more!  I nearly keeled over when I first saw the price of environmentally friendly laundry detergent or organic apples a few years ago.  Sheesh-it's not always easy on the wallet.  You totally know what I'm talking about don't you?

It's been several years but I found a website awhile back called iherb.com that I order from monthly.  They offer discounted products and everything under the sun that you could possibly want!  I'm addicted.  Everything is fresh and totally new so it is just a genuinely good deal.

When we find a product or this case a website that we really dig I am all about sharing.  They sent us a $5 off coupon to all friends and family who want to use it.  Type: ZOT520 when you check out at iherb.com. So definitely take advantage of it!  I know we're not the only ones who like saving money.

I always find something that we need on their website at a discounted rate but I'll share my most frequently ordered products but there are many others:

1) Dr. Bronner's Soap-unscented and hemp

2) Barlean's products like Fish oil or Greens powder

You can order Kombucha, there too which is a fermented tea, that is so good for your belly's health!

iherb.com also has baking goodies, household items, beauty supplies and vitamins/supplements.  But lots more too!  Oh let me just warn you know that you will be addicted in no time but in the best way possible because it's all the good stuff you already need.  Enjoy!  Let me know what you order.

Small(ish) Stewardship

I've been working my way through 1 Chronicles lately.  Check it!  If I can, I recommend re-visiting the Old Testament if it's been awhile.  It's full of God's promises and renewed mercies, epic battles for justice, broken people after God's heart and my favorite; brave, bold, norm-defying women serving God.  Woohoo!
So anyway, back to 1 Chronicles.  I reached Chapter 9 and it caused me to think about a very relevant topic to our lives...

I use the ESV translation and in 1 Chronicles 9:31 the word "entrusted" is used.  Then I checked out the same verse but in the King James Version which uses the translation, "had the set office".  Have you ever "had the set office" over something?  Have you been entrusted with anything in your life?  A family? Children?  Money?  A job?  A skill?

Maybe even something small enough that is sneaks by you daily?

The word for "had the set office" or more easily understood for me as, "entrusted", is translated from the original Hebrew word: emuwnah.  It looks likes this in Hebrew: אֱמוּנָה

(Isn't that writing gorgeous?!  Shout out to my sister who lived in Israel-she knows what I'm talkin about!  I love Hebrew and Greek.  I would not mind learning both some day.)

Anyway the Hebrew word emuwnah means:

 firmness, fidelity, steadfastness, steadiness

The men in 1 Chronicles 9 were entrusted with various, unique tasks over the house of God.  They carried them out with firmness and steadfastness despite the duties appearing menial or small.  In 1 Chronicles 9:24-31 you find out that they did things like: kept security watch of the house, opened the gate every morning, prepared utensils for the service, prepped the oil/wine, took care of furniture, and even cooked up some flat cakes.

But you know, these modest daily tasks were a big deal to God.  If no one would have taken on these small duties, the House of the Lord wouldn't have run smoothly or maybe even at all.  He didn't entrust these men without purpose or just to keep them busy.  Our God is much more strategic than that.

I'm challenged to think to my own life and small tasks that don't mean a heck of a lot of me sometimes but serve the Lord and serve others even when it doesn't feel like a big production.  There area lot of dailies that happen and it really can be credited to Kingdom work.  What are your "smaller tasks" you've been entrusted with to serve God big time?

I'm spurred on by those verses in 1 Chronicles 9 to keep serving in the BIG ways and the small ways.  Both are valuable and with purpose.  Don't be afraid to ask the Lord for clarity about a certain chore or task and what value it holds if you're uncertain.  Serve on!

Weekend Happenings

We had a pretty busy weekend which is a very distinct change for us!  Ryan wasn't feeling the best though which was a discouragement and bummer :(  Saturday and Sunday evening he had a bad stomach ache (a side effect from one of his medications) so at least we knew the cause of it.  He felt just generally bad most of the weekend but thankfully he made it through the Father's Day celebrations feeling pretty OK.

Our Week Ahead: We go see Ryan's nurse on Monday to get the his surgical wound re-packed and cleaned, we see his surgeon on Tuesday for a follow up appointment, and we see his GI Specialist Thursday for a follow up and hopefully schedule a colonoscopy for next week.  Doctor's offices and appointments are all too familiar for us. But we're thankful for good health insurance and care for Ryan!

Hope you all had a great Father's Day and could celebrate the dads in your life!  Here's a little peak into how we spent our weekend...

The sweetest little lady.  Such a good helper to everyone, loves to eat cool whip, and listens so well!

Ha ha ha!  Poor Rilyn.  FREE baby!

My MIL & FIL bought Tyler/Anna and Ryan/me an anniversary cake.  We were married on June 13 just different years so they sang us "Happy Anniversary" to the tune of Happy Birthday :)

The four of us each had to blow out one of the four candles without extinguishing the others ha ha

The cake!  So pretty and summer-y

Anna opening up our shared anniversary card.  Can you see her little baby bump there?  Baby Decker #2 is due in July woo hoo!  This Aunt and Uncle are so excited!

Dinner = "fried" eggs with homemade salsa, fresh avocado, and polenta crisped in the frying pan.  Yum!
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
