No Tech Nights

Once a week we shut out the computer brightness, silence our ringing cell phones, and hide away the convenient little iPad...we forget about technology.  It's the best night of the week.

  No tech for president!

Want to come hang on our no tech night?  That's what it's for!  It's just about the most refreshing thing in the world.  Our only agenda is to be together and get rid of all distractions.

The work of my man.  What a stud.

A typical no tech night (we've had a whopping 2 at this point) has looked like this:

Ryan builds us a roaring fire (how manly) that keeps us warm and toasty.  We bust out some hot chocolate or wine.  Or both!  Sheesh.  Then we sit back and watch the fire, our conversation wanders to something we're thinking about or we're just quiet together.  The main goal of the night is to keep that fire roaring and those mugs filled-but mainly to unplug and be together.  No other agenda.

With that computer glare absent, this is what welcomes in our evening.  What a difference.

“I fear the day when the technology overlaps with our humanity. The world will only have a generation of idiots.”
-Albert Einstein

Other no tech night ideas to implement: have people we love over for dinner, build more fires (pyros...), go on a night hike, use the fire to cook something, play games, or who knows what else.

Do you want to join us in this crazy new tradition?  Some weeks we forget or just don't want to.  Because we're kind of junky like that.  But on the whole this is a sweet night, man!

It kills the hurry, slays the busy, and welcomes in the slow and unrushed pace of life we crave.  Whether we feel it or not, we're allowing Jesus to tend a place of our souls that the culture gets to stomp and tries feeds our drive for MORE!  But not this night.  Unplugged and tuning in to what's important are what we need these nights-surprisingly holy things that draw us nearer to Him.

I am way more interested in this guy than boring old Facebook-no competition!

When we're brave smart enough...perhaps we'll have 2 or 3 no tech nights a week.  I can't wait!  (Hey future decker babies-Hope you like this and don't resent us! Love, Your future parents).

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

  2. Great idea! We have even thought to go a bit farther...a "no electricity night"! (One time it was even "forced" on us by a storm...for 4 days!! lol!) It is a fantastic way to get rid of the distractions and focus on each other! Thanks for sharing!
