Appetizer Dinners

Happy 4th of July!!

Have a great day celebrating!  No big fireworks plans here in Colorado because of the fires, but that's not a damper.  We are having both of our parents over for a BBQ and will probably play some lawn games and enjoy back porch lounging.  Relaxing!

I am also excited to share a unique and easy new recipe and dinner idea.  It would even be great for your 4th of July celebrations today!

We learned the art of Appetizers for Dinner from my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tyler and Anna.  It is beyond delicious!!  You get so many varied flavors and textures plus it's easy and cool for easy summer meals.

Anna said she loves these dinners because you don't have to turn on the oven (which totally heats up the whole dang house) and now I'm convinced!

Try putting together an Appetizer Dinner sometime this week to cut down on cook time, reduce heat in your home, and bless your family with a new favorite!

Requirements of the Appetizers for Dinner:

No oven!
No stove (if possible)
Easy to cut items
Includes dippers of all kinds
Wholesome

Items seen in above picture includes:
Nut thins (gluten free nut cracker)
Hummus
Tyler's homemade Carmelized Onion Dip
Almonds
Artichoke hearts
Yellow bell peppers
Carrots

Other Appetizer Dinner Ideas... in any combination!
Crackers
Pita bread
Fresh bread of any kind
Your favorite dips
Any sliced vegetable (jicama, sliced tomatoes, green beans, cucumber, celery, etc)
Bruschetta
Your favorite nuts
Fruit skewers
Cream cheese
Nitrate free deli meats
Sliced cheeses
Guacamole
Hard boiled eggs
Organic corn tortilla chips

P.S. For a refreshing dessert try out the first idea on this post from my mom's blog!

Enjoy!  And thanks to Tyler & Anna for this awesome idea.  Check out these pictures from when we hung out with them recently!  Mostly are of Rilyn but I don't think anyone will mind...

Happy little Rilyn!

A very sad crying spell.  But couldn't resist capturing it ;)

Happier when she can snuggle mama

Warming up to her usual cheery self when I asked for a hug!

  1. Rilyn is the cutest little girl -- love the multiple moods.

I will definitely try your appetizer dinner. It is so hot that I don't even like to use the oven or crock pot.

Happy 4th of July to you too.

  3. I think this is a wonderful idea. Just recently my husband and I planned to have dinner, but we wanted something to snack on first because we were both starving. We cut up a couple mangoes and some gourmet cheese we had splurged on from a local cheese shop. After snacking on the mangoes and cheese, we wound up not wanting anything else!

  5. We started doing appetizer dinners about two years ago, and they're my favorites! We often put the whole kit and caboodle in a chip-and-dip tray and then put it in the middle of all of us while we have a family night and play board games, do puzzles, or watch a movie. It's to top out tomorrow at 105 - I think this is what we'll do!

    Adorable little girl. :-)
