Ryan's Surgery Tomorrow

After a long day of appointments, phone calls, and consolation with a few doctors we have a surgery scheduled tomorrow for Ryan at 11:45 am.

We met with our surgeon this morning.  She examined Ryan and collaborated with a GI Specialist to determine how to best approach his sickness.  Basically Ry has been regressing the last week which is super discouraging and confusing.  Our Doctor found a big abscess (pocket of pus and infection) in his perineum (right where his legs meet) and can drain it tomorrow by surgery.  Getting all that junk out of him would hopefully relieve him of the fevers, night sweats, general sick feeling, and some of the pain.  The procedure also involves exploring the rectum to hopefully determine what else is going on, a biopsy of the rectum, and removal of some abnormal tissue growth.

The only downside to all this is that the surgery does not directly address his anal fissures.  They cannot do surgery specific to that problem because Crohn's patients do not respond the same to surgery because of inflammation and other complications.  They don't want to do more damage and would rather treat those fissures with medications.  Hopefully that all makes sense to you!  I know my head is still spinning with new words and what and when they will do specific things

The procedure should take about 4 hours total and he will be home by the afternoon to rest.  We are SO grateful for even a step in the right direction to get him relieved of any symptoms.

Please pray with us!  We need prayer for: the doctors would be wise and very attentive during the surgery, for protection over Ryan's whole body while in surgery, that Ryan would respond well to the treatment and any meds in his system, and for a full and quick recovery afterwards.  Ryan said he would also specifically love prayers for progress towards healing and full health again. Even small steps are encouraging to us!  Thank you thank you thank you!!

We'll keep you updated as much as possible Throughout the weekend.  I imagine Ryan will be sleeping a lot so I should have time to hop on here.  Love and appreciate you all!
Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh
    and refreshment to your bones.

Proverbs 3:7-8

  1. I will be praying for the surgery!

  2. Hi, Carly

We will up lift both of y'all in our prayers!!!! God is so good and there is nothing that he can't do. Here are two verse from the good book that will help and give y'all strength.

    Psalms 91:11
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

    Isiah 26:3
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

I love this verse.. The key word is " Perfect Peace", that sent chills down my spine because it is rather refreshing and exactly what we all need during these rough times.

    1. Kay those verses are perfect. Thank you so much. You are so encouraging and such a blessing. We are beyond grateful for your prayers. I love that Perfect Peace comes from minds set on him-our thoughts, prayers, and more. So comforting :)

  3. Oh Carly, you are SO brave!!! The only surgery I experienced was when my daughter had surgery at 15 months. It was so awful waiting all those long hours, not knowing what was going on, or if everything was working! Praying for you both today.

    1. Stacey thanks so much!! Ugh I can't imagine waiting on surgery for a 15-month old--she would probably be so confused and it would just be beyond difficult. Ryan is so brave too. Such a trooper and really hopeful that draining out the infection will set him on the road to recovery. We appreciate you!!
