Life Update

You probably thought I forgot I had a blog didn't you???  Well I am back, ready to do some updating and writing! Thanks for checking back in so often and for the continued prayers and support.

It has been a LONG 7, almost 8, weeks now.  But let me give you an update list style, grab a mug of tea and get ready for a nice long Decker update...

1)  Ryan Decker is doing much better compared to where he was last week, or the week before, or even the week before that.  His progress is hard to describe because sometimes he has better days of eating/drinking/energy and other days are worse with nausea and lots of sleep because of pain.  But today was a healthier day!  He has not gained a single pound back yet but is in better spirits.  He is on a corticosteroid to manage his Crohn's flare up and we just found ourselves one very legit GI specialist.  Thank you Lord for provision and strength.

Look at that handsome, smirking man! Eating some vegetable frittata and watching a movie tonight.

2)  Cooking has been a rarity in our house, at least done by either one of us!  We have had countless friends and family bring by dinners, lunches, and more.  Wow!  But I did get the energy and excitement to whip up this a few days ago: Ultimate Chocolate Fudge Pie.  But don't be deceived...

Ultimate Chocolate Fudge Pie

This little slice of rich, delicious chocolate is AMAZINGLY delicious and healthy.  What?!  It took  >10 minutes to make the crust and filling plus it's no bake.  The secret?  Tofu.  Oh yes!  Check out this website for the full recipe. Ryan can sniff out a "healthy dessert" a mile away and when I served him a slice he unknowingly just smiled and ate it without question... he he he ;)

3)  We celebrated our Moms this weekend a wee bit late.  Today we hosted a simple Mother's Day Lunch at our home with all of the Deckers.  There was BBQ chicken, incredible homemade garlic bread, pesto pasta, a fresh tossed salad, fruit and veggie kabobs, vegetable frittata, and yummy dessert to finish it off.  It was a feast and refreshing to have people over.

Tomorrow we are celebrating Mama Nelson at a new restaurant in Downtown Golden with lunch, cards, and perhaps another floral surprise :)  Just pretend to be surprised mother!

We are SO blessed by our moms.  They have served us so well in this very hard season with surprises in the mail, meals, support, and love.  But we love and appreciate them outside of receiving those things-they are a blessing to us ALL the time.  Happy (belated) Mother Day!!

4)  We're trying to return to some normalcy in our life as Ryan heals.  That means time with people and having a weekly rhythm again.  I get to start teaching 2 & 3 year old Sunday School in June which I am very giddy about!  Ryan might resume doing the sound board at church-he was on the schedule to be a part of the worship team next month but his health is still being determined so that will have to wait.  We LOVE our church-the elders and pastors have been so supportive with e-mails, prayer, and love.  Dang we are blessed and excited to get back in the mix.

5)  Some random thoughts about what we're learning in this season...we just realized how beyond blessed and privileged we are to live in America.  What we mean is that we have access to health care, medicine is available to us, we can afford the medicine (which is NOT cheap I might add), and we simply can rest in a home with clean, running water, warmth, a bed and so much more.

Has that ever occurred to you?  It never did to me.  I mean who thinks about being able to go to the doctor and just get what you need within 24 hours?  What if we lived in a 3rd world country with no job to pay for health care? What would Crohn's do to Ryan then?!  I shudder to even think about that.  I am so overwhelmed with thankfulness for our situation and provision.

6)  Random thought: Pinterest is addictingly (is that a real word?) inspirational.  Is that good or bad?  Ha!  Anyway I have a MILLION ideas like coat racks in the entry way, health dessert kabobs, re-doing a dresser, autumn dress ideas, and more.  Pinterest has been really fun thing to browse while Ryan naps.   Are you a Pinterest lover or hater?

Ok homies I'm heading out.  More posts to come, with more regularity.  I would love to hear what I've missed in your world since I've been MIA.  Updates please!

Oh and a P.S. #7  If (and when!) Ryan fully recover in the next few weeks his work would still like to send us to the Dominican Republic mid-June or early July!  We're seeking wisdom but I'm hungry for an adventure and some Spanish speaking goodness.  We will only go with the Lord's OK and we're excited the option is still open.
