Women at Easter

Tulips just welcome Easter for me!
Reading through Luke and an account of Easter this week allowed a few new people in particular who participated in the story to stick out to me...  Who?

Women.  A group of women actually!  We traveled in groups back then too :)

How cool is that?  That God would choose to weave our unique and wonderful gender in the greatest party of history simply to magnify Himself more.  Sweet!  Check it out with me...

This group of women followed him faithfully as the cross was carried across town.  They simply but helplessly took in all they saw with caring eyes as God has given us ladies.
(see Luke 23:27)

They mourned and boldly expressed grief at his treatment.  Kind of risky ladies!  The head honcho of Judea authorized what was happening here and they would speak out against it?!  Bold!
(see Luke 23:27)

Even among crowds, wounds, stress, and the impending cross Jesus knew their need of comfort and leadership and spoke to them words of instruction.
(see Luke 23:28-29)

They watched the entire scene play out, what we can now celebrate as finished work-obedient to not intercede.
(see Luke 23)

To the tomb they followed-where Jesus was buried and prepared spices and ointments for his body.  Always thinking ahead and working to like us right?
(see Luke 23:56)

Arose at dawn for the hard work to tend his body but were confused at the empty tomb!  I don't know about you but I love serving at any event but I like when it goes as planned--but not here!
(see Luke 24:1)

Who attended the funeral; not any of the disciples, but only the women that came with him from Galilee who, as they staid by him while he hung on the cross, so they followed him, all in tears no doubt, and beheld the sepulchre where it was, which was the way to it, and how his body was laid in it. They were led to this, not by their curiosity, but by their affection to the Lord Jesus, which was strong as death and which many waters could not quench.
-Matthew Henry's Commentary

These women were the first ones to report that Jesus body was not there-that He had RISEN!  The Lord knows we women love to talk--how perfect!
Luke 24:4, 8

I love that!  Jesus knew women would live as they were built and that their affection for Him would inspire us 2000+ years later.  Celebrating Easter this weekend, I am encouraged to live boldly, uniquely, and whole-heartily for Jesus not only at Easter but daily.

What a different perspective that gives me this Easter Weekend.

Jesus allowed women-those he called daughter - to give a new glimpse into the story.  They brought emotion to the story, obedient hearts, preparation, loyal relationship, and of course chattiness!  We get to live out showing off who the King of Kings is just as these women played a unique role in the Easter story in proclaiming Him.  We are equipped and He is worth telling about!

Thank you Jesus for living the life we failed to live, dying the death that was rightfully ours.  Thank you for rising again so that we may have life.  Your extravagant love deserves an invitation into our hearts and  the devotion for the rest of our life!

Amen.  He is risen!  Celebrate Easter today friends-enjoy and embrace the Cross.
A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice

Isaiah 41:3

  1. Carly I love this!!! God is so neat to include us in the story! I especially like how you talk about them working hard to serve Jesus diligently- like preparing the spices and tending to the body, because it's how they could best serve him! Love it!! :)

    1. Totally Angi! Jesus totally loves and will use us! Encouraged about that part of the Easter story.

  2. This is such a great post Carly, I love the perspective that you showed here. As you said, we are equipped and He is worth telling about! I love how God made us women and how He gave us unique attributes. We need to celebrate how God made us and abide in Him to make us Godly women! Have a wonderful Easter :) -Nicole @ Working Kansas Homemaker
